Natalie Imbruglia joins Danni Minogue at X Factor’s judges house in Queensland. Natalie will help Dannii pick the top 3 boys for this year’s X Factor.

With their matching flowing blue gowns, lightly tanned skin and perfectly coiffed hair  Dannii Minogue and Natalie Imbruglia look uncannily similar as they team up on tonight’s X Factor.

Dannii roped in her fellow Australian singer after deciding to hold her judges’ houses section of the show in her native Melbourne.

Despite missing the audition stage of the show, she is keen to get back to work after her maternity leave.

‘I’m excited about this category.  It’s so good to be back and with a great bunch of boys,’ she tells the camera.

And she’s also glad to be in her home country.

‘I’m so glad to be doing my Judges homes here, finally,’ she said. ‘I’ve been wanting to do this for years.’

And while Dannii wasn’t at the auditions, she has been doing her homeweork.

‘I wanted to tell you the important stuff.  I’ve watched all of the auditions, good and bad,’ she tells the boys. ‘Perfection isn’t what we’re looking for at this stage it’s the X Factor.’

X Factor’s Judges house will be aired in UK on ITV at 7pm on Saturday, October 2, 2010

Natalie Imbruglia as a guest judge on the UK X Factor

Last night saw the third week of auditions for X Factor, and kicking things off for the show were French duet Double Trouble, who are the Gallic answer to last years mediocre but likable twin act, John and Edward.

Suffice to say Simon Cowell wasn’t impressed, and was voted down by Cheryl Cole and Louise Walsh.

The second act to perform was American performer Storm Lee (born in Scotland), who had traveled all the way from Los Angeles to audition for the show. Simon had issues with his legal name Storm, which he adopted at age 16, and pushed for his real name “Lee” saying it was pretentious and didn’t work.

After somewhat of an iffy audition where he had to change his song midway through because Simon didn’t like the first song choice. An emotional Lee regrouped, and stormed through with a U2 song and votes of confidence from all three judges.

Joining the judges in Birmingham was actress turned singer Natalie Imbruglia, who shot to fame in the UK with her role in Neighbors and much like Kylie Minogue, found some success as a singer.

The first act to perform in the Birmingham leg was Liam Payne, who’d previously made it through to Simon Cowell’s Barbados house during the 2008 series only to be told that he wasn’t ready.

Liam who is now 16, sang a very mature interpretation of Cry Me A River for the judges and flew through to the Boot Camp Stage, and is the third returning act in recent weeks to do that.

Whether both or at least one of the three manages to match the success of 2008 winner Alexandra Burke, who also returned after failing to get through in an earlier competition remains to be seen.

Suffice to say all four judges passed him through.

I’d say the stand out audition of the night came from 16-year-old  Cher Lloyd who was extremely nervous, but gave thrilling performance of the song Turn My Swag On, and displayed her own unique style that none of the judges could say no too, and earned her a standing ovation from the audience.

The worst audition of the evening came from a two girl act called Ablisa who not only pissed off the audience with their bad attitude, but also managed to tick off the judges, got into a fisticuffs with each other, and generally did everything wrong.

In fact about the worst part of the audition was when Abby and Lisa got into a fight when one of the two asked well known singer Natalie Imbruglia, “Who are you?”   Not the thing to do, but funny as hell to watch. Oh dear me!

Nat is fabulous in fuchsia as she faces off with casual Cheryl Cole at Birmingham X Factor

At the first round of X Factor auditions in Glasgow last week, Cheryl Cole overdressed in a leopard-print prom dress while Geri Halliwell went for a more relaxed style in a vest and jeans. So as the judges headed to Birmingham for the next try-outs today, it appeared Cole had decided to keep things more casual this time round in a pair of grey skinny jeans and sheer waistcoat. However, she found herself outdone in the fashion stakes by new guest judge Natalie Imbruglia, who made a colourful and glamorous impression in an unusual fuchsia mini-dress and killer heels.

As well as being the only two singers on the judging panel with music moguls Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, Imbruglia and Cole have both modelled for L’Oreal. Former Neighbours beauty Imbruglia starred in ads for the beauty giant from 2002 until 2007, while Cole signed a £500,000 deal to represent the brand in the UK last August.

Australian singer Imbruglia, 35, is the second guest judge to stand in for pregnant Dannii Minogue, who is preparing to give birth to her first child next month. Her two day stint at the Brummie live auditions at the LG Arena will serve as a warm-up for her new role as a judge on the Australian X Factor.

Imbruglia will join Ronan Keating, Aussie radio personality Kyle Sandilands and Australian Idol 2003 winner Guy Sebastian on the panel later this year. She will be hoping her guest judging stint will be more successful than Halliwell’s on Wednesday, who was booed by some members of the Glasgow audience.

Following Halliwell and Imbruglia, Katy Perry and Pixie Lott will also appear on the panel. The judges will be in London from 21-24 June, Dublin on 28 June, Cardiff on 2 July and Manchester from 9-11 July.
